The startling images were reportedly taken in Atheron, close to Queensland’s tropical north. Despite their unlikely subject matter, the pictures appear to be real. Joel Shakespeare, head spider keeper at the Australian Reptile Park, said the spider was a Golden Orb Weaver. “Normally they prey on large insects… it’s unusual to see one eating a bird,” he told ninemsn.com.
