A CREDIT UNION THAT HELPS YOU AVOID OVERDRAFTS

A CREDIT UNION THAT HELPS YOU AVOID OVERDRAFTS September 8th 2010

Everyone hates overdraft fees. We know that smaller banks and credit unions tend to charge less for fees than Wall Street banks, but wouldn’t it be nice if a financial institution went out of its way to help you avoid overdrafts? Well, it’s happening. The North Carolina State Employees Credit Union — the second largest credit union in the country — recently announced a new program to send a text message to members who are about to be charged an overdraft fee to help them keep their accounts in the black. This program, called Another Chance!, is just part of NCSECU looking out for its members over profits, reports the Christian Science Monitor:

“It has never been the focus of SECU to benefit from members’ errors,” senior VP Sue Douglas said in a statement.

The NCSECU campaign is one way credit unions can take advantage of public animosity toward Wall Street and large banks and build their customer base. Web maven Arianna Huffington’s “Move your Money” appeal has specifically mentioned credit unions as a viable option to large banks.
