JERUSALEM -- Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Israel at the end of April, the first visit ever by a Russian leader to the Jewish state, Israeli officials said Tuesday.
Israeli-Russian relations have improved greatly in the past 15 years since the fall of the Soviet Union, which supported Israel's Arab enemies. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who is of Russian descent, has visited Moscow three times since taking office in 2001. Sharon, who learned Russian from his parents, has spoken with Putin on the phone.

In late February I put my book table inside Jerusalem's Convention Center where the Chabad had organized an anti Gush Katif surrender gathering, As I sold a book a minute, I was interviewed by the literary editor of the Jerusalem Post, Eliot Jager. He is writing an article about the spread of "conspiracy theories" in Israel and who better to talk to than the "father" of this nefarious turn of literary events. I didn't take notes, he did. It seems that Sharon is unstoppable, at least by mere men, but there is One who can and will stop him. Five months from today the evacuation is planned to begin, and I don’t think anyone in their right mind around here believes it will happen without something that resembles a civil war. There are over 230,000 Jews living in Samaria and another 20,000 Jews around Israel who plan to be at Gaza to stop the IDF. Sharon has already made it known that who ever tries to stop the IDF will be considered a criminal and be placed in detention camps. The question is can they arrest .................
