China wary of Foreign SPECULATORS Saturday, May 21 @ 01:47:36 CDT by myoung (43 reads) | | Part 5: China wary of foreign 'speculators'
BEIJING - China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) has warned of large influx of foreign capital into the country's real estate market, promising to conduct a joint investigation on the problem and deal with any irregularities by working together with other administrative departments of the state.
In 2004, many overseas individuals bought houses in China, but not, in many cases, for the purpose of using the properties themselves. Rather, their purchases were clearly made in the expectation of realizing a capital gain on the property - ie, speculation. This large flow of speculative capital has exerted a substantial impact on China's real estate and .........

OUTSOURCING: CitiBank Call Center Employees in India Stole $350,000 Saturday, April 09 @ 11:04:09 CDT by myoung (301 reads) | | Backlash from report of Indian outsourcing theft?
A report that former call center employees in India allegedly stole $350,000 from consumer accounts could prove to be a serious setback to the offshore outsourcing industry.
Suspected gang members arrested by police in Pune included three ex-workers of Mphasis BPO. BPO refers to business process outsourcing. Police said the workers allegedly stole customers' personal account information and transferred around $350,000 to fake accounts in Pune.
A Times of India story on Wednesday cited unnamed sources in naming Citibank as the bank in question.
Citibank did not immediately return a call requesting comment ..........

Interview PM of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad Saturday, March 26 @ 21:10:19 CST by myoung (217 reads) | Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad Candid Interview
with EIR
Executive Intelligence Review
Dr. Mahathir is the former Prime Minister of Malaysia. He was interviewed by Muriel Mirak-Weissbach in Cairo, Egypt on March 10. The questions were prepared in collaboration with Michael Billington.
EIR: Your Excellency, thank you for this opportunity to interview you. You said this morning, at the University of Cairo, correctly and dramatically, that the U.S. dollar is bankrupt. The U.S. is heavily indebted and the dollar continues to decline in value. I know that you have proposed that Saudi Arabia, for example, should shift its dollar holdings into the gold dinar; you've also proposed that other countries shift their reserves into the euro or yen, which, in large part, is happening, particularly among Asian nations. But the problem is

China claims sovereignty (oil rights) from Japan, past Korea around Taiwan Wednesday, March 16 @ 12:06:51 CST by myoung (139 reads) | |
By John Kerin
You have to pull out a map for this one but it's worth it. China claims sovereignty (and oil rights) over all waters leading out to the edge of Asia's continental shelf. This then would include every square foot west of the southern third of Japan, everything west of the Korean peninsula and all the waters around Taiwan. When China chooses to enforce this claim, as is apparently happening now, it is a certainty that all hell will start to break loose in the region. This may be the reason for a US Naval exercise last year involving five aircraft carrier battle groups. It is on this shelf that small but very significant deposits of oil and gas are known to exist from northern Japan all the way south to the Spratly islands near Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia.

China Owns Deep Sea Oil Port in Pakistan's Waters Monday, March 07 @ 08:47:37 CST by myoung (184 reads) | | China's pearl in Pakistan's waters
By Sudha Ramachandran
BANGALORE - When Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visits Pakistan this month to inaugurate the Gwadar deepsea port, China will take a giant leap forward in gaining a strategic foothold in the Persian Gulf region. It will advance what a recent Pentagon report describes as Beijing's "string of pearls" strategy that aims to project Chinese power overseas and protect China's energy security at home................

China's 21st-Century Nuclear Energy Plan Saturday, February 26 @ 17:44:57 CST by myoung (108 reads) | | China's 21st-Century
Nuclear Energy Plan
by Marsha Freeman / EIR
The People's Republic of China is implementing an energy program which will bring online as many as to 30 new nuclear power plants over the next 15 years, and which has put China in the forefront of world research and development in nuclear science and engineering. This effort stands in stark contrast to the situation in the United States, where the Bush Administration's "pro-nuclear" energy plan is to try get one new commercial power plant built over the next decade, and to delay development of advanced reactor systems—some of which the U.S. tested decades ago—into the indefinite future...........

The Asian Age India | M.J. Akbar
A funny thing happened on the way to Condoleezza Rice's nomination as the new secretary of state of the United States of America. She privatised the Pakistan government and placed it among the pile of her achievements. She told American Senators that the Bush administration has a "contingency plan" to prevent "Islamic fundamentalists" from getting access to Pakistan's nuclear weapons if something happened to President Pervez Musharraf and they succeeded in capturing power.
How? No one pursued the most obvious question, but of course you don't want state secrets

Following the tsunami, conspiracy rumours have been circulating on the internet of how the US base at Diego Garcia managed to avoid casualties while other islands suffered huge losses.
The US Navy's official Diego Garcia website said the island wasn't hit by the devastating tsunami because it is surrounded by deep waters and the grade of its shores does not allow for tsunamis to build before hitting land...........

China Is Shaking the West's Strategy Tuesday, January 04 @ 05:03:15 CST by myoung (150 reads) | | Wide-awake giant will shake west's strategy

The Guardian
For those who like to live life on the edge, 2004 has been a year to savour. It's been a white-knuckle ride as the global economy has defied soaring energy costs, the ever-present threat of terrorist attacks and profound imbalances between the leading players to post what the IMF called the strongest growth performance in almost three decades. There's no mystery as to the reason for this. Put simply, the world has been hauled along by the power of its two locomotives - the US and China. America's seemingly insatiable appetite for consumption and China's need for investment allowed the rest of the world to bank on export-led growth. ...........
