Sharon wants prison for defiant settlers

JERUSALEM — Armed settlers who resist evacuation during next year's planned removal of Jewish settlements from the Gaza Strip and West Bank could face five years in prison under a law proposed yesterday.
Settler leaders vehemently oppose the pullout, which is to include all 21 settlements in Gaza and four in the West Bank. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Likud Party has twice voted against the pullout, although polls say it is supported by a majority of Israelis.
