On Monday, February 16, 2004, I asked a Rabbi a question regarding the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin is the Jewish Senate established by Moses and was the governing body of leaders that judged the people of Israel until 69 AD when it was abolished by a Roman Decree of Caesar Titus when the Temple was destroyed in Jerusalem.
The prophecy known to both Jews and Christians is the Sanhedrin will be established during (or prior to) the rebuilding of the Temple. More details on that later.
Subject: Ask The Rabbi Question
Mike Young asked:
Here is my question, "What is preventing the Jewish community from reestablishing the Great Sanhedrin? What would motivate them to do so in the next 1,000 years?
You do not need a Temple, for the Sanhedrin existed in the wilderness long
before the Tent or Temple was built.
Answer by Rabbi P. Waldman ............
Dear Mike;
The Sanhedrin will be reinstated in the Messianic era - (source:
"Maimonides' Commentary to Mishna" Sanhedrin 1:3; "Maharalbach" 147; "Chavat
Yair" 125; "Igrot Moshe" by R' M. Feinstein, C.M. II 73).
Thus, when Messiah comes, or right before his arrival, the Sanhedrin will be
renewed.
