In The Beginning

The Scriptures open up in Genesis with those well known words, ‘In the beginning’. Unfortunately, most people tend to read such phrases and pass over them without considering their interpretation. What appears superficial and simple is often a container of deep truths and we would do well to look a bit further (2 Tim 2:15).

When we see those opening words, the a few questions should begin to appear:

1.) Whose beginning?
2.) When was this beginning?
3.) Is there more than one beginning?

Most will never stop to ask those questions. The would rather pass over them and continue their reading as if glancing on the ‘once upon a time’ of a storybook fairytale and thus the deeper matters of Scripture continue to elude them. Every word is precious! Seek and ye shall find….

Now I’m not in the habit of casting out pearls upon the vast herds of internet swine but I’ll leave a little stepping stone for those who do actually hunger and thirst. ‘The beginning’ was more than just the inception of the heavens and earth. It was a catalyst that set the stage for our next 7000 years. Consider the following verse in your devotionals:

Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

We know Lucifer was perfect when he was created (Ez 28:15) so how was he a murderer ‘from the beginning’? If you take the time to ask yourself that question and, even more importantly, take the time to answer that question, you will be very surprised with what you learn! Godspeed in doing so.
